Though the customs and traditions of Raksha Bandhan vary from one part of India to the other but the underlying essence remains the same that is the undying love and protection between a brother and sister. Normally the days starts early with offering to the gods and then sisters tie rakhis around their brothers, cousins or adopted brothers wrists and treating them with sweets. The traditional tilak or vermillion is put on the forehead of brothers by their sisters. Gifts are given to the sisters sometimes even sisters give gifts to their brothers. Later, everyone enjoy a sumptuous meal or visit other family or relatives.
